Awake Watches proves that design and manufacture sustainable consumer products is possible.
Can we change the way we produce and consume, for a better future? This is the challenge of the completely new watch brand that has been created by Fred and Lilian, two French entrepreneurs.
Awake Watches has a mission. They want to prove that there is a smarter and more sustainable way to consume goods. First, they wanted to show that one can create objects with innovative design and very high quality, while still limiting the environmental impact as much as possible.
"We see our customers as ambassadors for change, who reject disposable products and planned obsolescence, and who are eager to preserve the planet for future generations. Our watch will accompany them everywhere, and will testify to these shared values", says Fred, the brand’s designer.
AWAKE perfectly illustrates the brand’s mentality, and hopes to make everyone aware of the impact of their consumption. Pollution is a growing concern, with 22,000 tons of plastic waste being dumped into our oceans every day*. It was an awareness of this problem that prompted the founders of AWAKE to come up with their idea, and it’s all about the goal: to create better objects for a better future.
The first collection, called “Origins”, will consist of four watches, each with a strong personality. From the initial design to production, every single decision was dictated by a desire for eco-responsibility. The ultra-resistant straps are made from recycled plastic waste, pulled from Southeast Asian seas. AWAKE watches are built in 316L steel, the same material that is used by luxury brands, which is totally recyclable. No compromise has been made on the watches’ movement, which has integrated a solar cell, to capture the energy from any form of light. This avoids the requirement for a polluting battery or electricity, and ensures an unlimited reserve of power.

AWAKE will be available, on July 18th, on the crowdfunding platform, www.kickstarter.com. The first buyers will benefit from an exceptional launch price (249 USD instead of 369 USD).
